The actual purpose of this site is to display information on my family history. Initially I have concentrated mainly on the Woodrow branch of my Mother’s family, and my maternal Grandmother Julia Atta Woodrow is pictured above. She was born in 1876 in Winterton, Norfolk.

My paternal Grandparents, William and Selina Gill originated in the Tipton and Sedgley areas of Staffordshire, and moved to the Barnsley area of Yorkshire in the early 1900s. My Father, Jack, their youngest child, was born in Barnsley in 1913.

Having welcomed you my first duty as host must be to offer my apologies to those of you expecting connections to Middle Earth or Dragon’s Lore. The name ‘Ancalagon’ is simply a sympton of my severe addiction to works of J.R.R. Tolkien (for which I make no apologies). It has also been the name of my house for the past 20 years.
