Ancalagon The Black was the first, the greatest, and the most feared of the winged dragons.
The name Ancalagon means ‘Rushing Jaws’ .
Created by Morgoth the Dark, Ancalagon led a host of winged fire-drakes against the Valar in The Great Battle at the end of the First Age of Middle Earth.
Ancalagon was finally slain by Earendil (the Father of Elrond Half-Elven), and the course of the battle was turned.
